Michael Wiederer (Secretary General of teh European Handball Federation):The EHF is very happy to be here in Colgne fort he European Championship for Club Teams. We are expecting a top event, 3 teams here are in the last 16 of the Champions League and Lemgo is in the last 16 of the EHF Cup. The weekend with the most spectators at an EHF event so far was at the 2002 Men’s European Championship in 2002, with a total of 28 000 fans in the Globe Arena. We are hoping to hit a new record this weekend. Our central partner is Eurosport, 12 cameras will be producing the pictures for TV. Raúl Gonzalez (Coach BM Cuidad Real): I would like to thank you for the warm welcome we have received here. WE are pleased to be here and its an honour and a duty to defend this title, merely out of respect for the efforts of the Organisors. We will do our best but we do have some injuries and a few who aren’t on top form. Julio Fis and Uros Zorman will definitely not play. Urios de Fon seca, Petar Metlicic and Olafur Stefansson are not quite fit.. But we are going to do our best. Vladimir Maksimow (Coach Chehovskie Medvedi):I have to say that the mere fact this event will take place in the Kölnarena proves what position has in handball. European handball is the strongest in the world, that is why we can all agree that this is really like a World Cup for Club Teams. For our club, it’s a huge honour to be here . We too have some injuries. Jegorov had to stay at home, but we are going to do everything to prove why we are here. Volker Mudrow (Coach TBV Lemgo):For us too, ist a honour to be here, we are the only team here which doesn’t play inthe Champions League, which is why we are especially out there to prove ourselves. We measure ourselves alongside the best in the world . If you have the chance to play against such teams, then you have to take it. Last week we were on top form, now we have lost Florian Kehrman, who has a broken hand. We have packed away the loss defeat against Kronau/Östringen, and we are ready to go again. Alfred Gislason (Coach VfL Gummersbach):I am really happy that we can play against the world’s best here at home. It is an event for our spectators, to have such teams like Ciudad Real, Medvedi and Lemgo under one roof. I hop ewe can represent Germany well. Its not for nothing why Ciudad Real the Champions League winner is, which is for me the absolute best team of the world. This weekend is going to be an advert for handball. Hans-Peter Krämer (Executive Committee President of VfL Gummersbach:We are proud that Vfl Gummersbach has the honour to hold this event and we can welcome these great teams here. WE have the absolute highest profile members of the EHF management here and many celebrities. The interest of the media and public just shows what an event this is. José Xavier Hombrados (Captain Ciudad Real):In the name of my team I would like to say that we are happy to be here and this tournament is important for us. Of course we are going to try are best to repeat the success of last year, we have a few injuries but its just great to play in this arena. Vitaly Ivanov (Captain Chehovskie Medvedi):For us, its an honour to be here, we too have a few injury problems but we still have a very string team and just to play here in Colgne is for me a great experience. Christan Schwarzer (Captain TBV Lemgo):We are looking forward to the matches. We are going through a generation change in Lemgo, Volker Zerbe has ended his career, for us sportsmen, its a huge honour to play against the best in the world, a huge opportunity. We want to advertise our sport for the World Championship, and that is perfect here, where the final will be played. Handball is the second top team sport, and this event is going to prove it. Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson (Captain VfL Gummersbach):We are happy to be here for this tournament, which is different to playing bundesliga. We are playing against the best in the world. It wouldn’t be bad to win against Lemgo in the semii-final. I hope that the hall will be full and the Kölnarena, its one of the best in the world. I hope everyone enjoys it! |
